What would you say is the difference between navel-gazing and serious introspection?
Also, I've noticed that there's a distinct subset of authors who grew up culturally Jewish and became Zen Buddhists, because this allowed them to reject all structures, categories and distinctions. What I see as an annoying blobby void of nothingness, they embrace as vivifying freedom. Which is more or less fine, until they start wanking off about all the rigors of the Zen mindset.
Also, I would be ecstatic if I lived long enough to see people stop referring to "Imagine" by John Lennon as anything besides insulting trash.
