Maybe not a direct inspiration, but what the US accomplished in did sure set an example of what could be done. Plus I see Socialism as being part of a logical progression in the same chain of thought that produced of nationalism and democracy. Any kind of ideology based around unnatural ideals like leveling and egalitarianism is going to eventually play itself out to its most ghastly extremes.

But yeah, I agree that the war itself wasn't revolutionary.
